Rough (smoothed) Draft for Gauntlet.
Ever notice how ganon and link have rather similar gauntlets? i'm supposed to be making some stuff in my Independant study with 3DMax, so i figured i'd make one of their gauntlets. I'm not sure whose I'm making, but at this point it doesn't matter. Obviously, this model is still in the works, so if anyone wants to give me some advice, i'm open to it at entrunner7@aol.com, as well as here in the gallery. Made in 3DMax, image touched up in photoshop.

oh, and it's 397 verts and 388 faces. pretty big numbers, but with Max's smoothing tools the counts go up really fast.

that is a ton of faces. Now that i think about it, those SSB characters had about 6 faces.

ooooooooohs and ahs.

Wow, its like your talking a foreign language ^_^ *knows nothing of 3D animation* Lovely renderings. The hands look kinda feminine here, so I'd think they'd be Link's gauntlets.

DTE, "faces" is the computer term for the triangles which make a 3D object. SSBM sprites (character models) had thousands of faces each, making it one of the highest-poly games ever successfully published. look at the develpement wireframes sometime, they're amazing. anyhoo, ja, the hand is rather effeminate. it's an issue stemming from the way i got the vertices to be rendered, i'll tweak it into manlyness.

i was talking about the first smash bro's
Koroks Rock  [Apr 25, 2005 at 02:34 AM]
and i was talking about SSBM. what's your point?
dude_thats_evil  [Apr 25, 2005 at 04:24 AM]
my point is how funny the characters look in the first super smash bro's look because of the lack of faces....... wow it was funny how seriously you took that
dudeofrandomness  [Apr 25, 2005 at 03:11 PM]
Yes, the hands look feebler than a man's hands *looks at own hands* ... *silence* ... Ok they could pass for a young man's hands maybe. And yes, the first Smash Bros looks like a very small polycount compared to SSBM.

y r u guys comparing an n64 game's graphics to a gamecubes? thats like.. comparing ...pants to uh... miniskirts. k im a lil confused about the image here is it like the glove thingy that goes on the back of the hand (k i dont even exactly kno wut a gauntlet is) or is it like a hand or a glove cuz i thought it was like those things that go like just not around the whole hand, like on the back of the hand (yea the.. yea) cuz like in the bottom left one the hand/gauntlet looks flat, like the bottom of the thumb on a hand is suppose to like bump out. yes im done. whoooo.. gotta get a mushroom.
dude_thats_evil  [Apr 26, 2005 at 07:09 PM]
*steals the mushroom and eats it*.............*gags (its poisonous)* a gauntlet is nothing more than a fancy glove.......or it is also a type of war

Fyrborn  [Jun 22, 2005 at 07:01 PM]
other then looking kind of lizard like..well its not done yet but..its still very good..oh and gauntlet as a hand wearing instrument is anything thats heavyduty and goes up the forearm at least halfway HZ
Rito_Sage  [Sep 25, 2005 at 09:19 PM]
it's alright, but it's just much too flat. men tend to have more muscles and knuckles to their hands. isn't there any way to raise them?
Koroks Rock  [Sep 25, 2005 at 10:04 PM]
ja, through prior subdivision and then smoothing. unfortunatly, i no longer have any incentive to study 3DS Max, so this is a legacy picture. i'll make a hand in Milkshape or something to replace it with.
